Background of the Study

Television remains a powerful medium for health education, particularly in regions with limited internet access. Health programs broadcasted on television play a critical role in raising awareness about maternal health, including prenatal care, safe delivery practices, and postpartum health (WHO, 2024).

In Adamawa State, maternal mortality remains a significant concern, partly due to gaps in maternal health knowledge among pregnant women and healthcare providers (Ibrahim & Yusuf, 2024). While television health programs have been introduced to address these issues, their effectiveness in improving maternal health awareness has not been thoroughly assessed. This study examines the impact of television health programs on maternal health knowledge in Adamawa State.

Statement of the Problem

Despite efforts to reduce maternal mortality, many women in Adamawa State lack adequate maternal health knowledge, leading to preventable complications during pregnancy and childbirth (Adepoju & Salami, 2024). Television health programs aim to bridge this knowledge gap, yet their effectiveness in influencing maternal health behaviors remains uncertain.

This study evaluates the impact of television health programs in educating women about maternal health and improving maternal health outcomes in Adamawa State.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the level of maternal health knowledge among women in Adamawa State.
  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of television health programs in increasing maternal health awareness.
  3. To identify challenges in using television as a medium for maternal health education.

Research Questions

  1. What is the level of maternal health knowledge among women in Adamawa State?
  2. How effective are television health programs in improving maternal health awareness?
  3. What challenges affect the success of television health programs in educating women about maternal health?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Television health programs have no significant impact on maternal health knowledge.
  2. There is no significant relationship between television exposure and improved maternal health awareness.
  3. Challenges in access to television programs do not significantly affect maternal health education outcomes.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on maternal health education through television programs in Adamawa State. Limitations include variations in television accessibility, differences in literacy levels, and the quality of maternal health programming.

Definitions of Terms
